In yet another new, regular* feature of the blog I'm going to highlight incidents in football that make me love the sport. I'm not putting any restrictions on this, all it has to be is something that reaffirms my appreciation of the beautiful game and puts a smile on my face.
*do not take this literally.
The first entry is Arsene Wenger's reaction to being sent to the stands in the game against Manchester United. Wenger was sent off for booting a bottle up the touchline, and instead of skulking down the tunnel, or heading up to the directors box, he placed himself defiantly in front of the United fans.
He stood, arms outstretched, Christ-like, on an elevated platform in front of the opposition fans as they shouted, booed and jeered. He had the look of a man who didn't give a fuck, and then the United fans began to clap and cheer. I've never been a Wenger fan (his chronic myopia is a constant irritation to me) but this brought a shit-eating grin to my face. Great stuff.
